Awards night held June 6
LIMESTONE, Maine — Awards were presented June 6, 2016 to members of the spring sports teams at Limestone Community School. Awards were given in middle school softball and varsity baseball and softball and participants in the mid-winter sport of volleyball were also recognized. Special award winners were also announced.
Second-year middle school softball coach Jocelyn Dillon presented awards to members of her team. Team members honored were Taylor LaBreck, Kourtney West, Kennedy Bencivenga, Taylor Wallace, Sierra Beaulieu, Aida Smith, Arianna Elliott, Karri Triplett, Isabelle Levesque and manager Aiden Dillon. Most Improved Player was Elliott and West received the Coach’s Award. LaBreck was named the Most Valuable Player. Bencivenga was given a special Pitcher’s Award for her work this season.
Members of the LCS/MSSM volleyball teams were recognized. Boys’ members were Karson Albert, Victor Negron, Ahmed Beshir, Dalton Canonico, Thomas Dolloff, R. Tyler Simmons, Paddy Keith-Hardy, Oliver Wainman and Sam Carignan. Albert was named most improved, while Carignan was most valuable and the coach’s award recipient.
Girls’ team members were Jacinta Deschaine, Leah Kihn, Rady Linkel, Mara McDonough, Gabby Collins, Briannah Becker, Lily Tedford, Bailey Chalmers, Samantha Zwecker, Andrea Rawson, Delaney Rossignol, Francesca Armstrong and Lisa Curtis. Rossignol was the tourney MVP, Deschaine the coach’s award winner and Armstrong the season MVP. The Eagles had captured this year’s Div. II Aroostook League title.
First-year coach Pierre Huntress presented awards to members of the varsity baseball team. Receiving certificates were Travis Hatfield, Tobyn Blatt, Kyle Provencal, Matt Hancock, Gordon McCulloh, Alex Sprague, Alec Comeau, Matt Pelkey, Bret Morgan, Mason Patten, Victor Negron, Davis Levesque, Karson Albert, Jacob Hatfield, Andrew DeChaine, Ahmed Beshir, Jacob Pelletier and manager Amelia Roy. Sprague was named most improved player, Patten was the coach’s award recipient and McCulloh was the MVP.
Second-year coach Jamie Albert presented awards and certificates to the varsity softball team members. Receiving certificates were Jackie Peers, Kassee Albert, Sarah Hemphill, Madeline Williams, Jessica Lindsay, Francesca Armstrong, Delaney Rossignol, Morganne Emery, Lasha Butler, Marissa Emery, Brooke Bolduc, Haili Rahkonen, Victoria Moore, Stephenie Bragg, Karoline Dillenbeck and managers Danika Devost and Sierra Dann. Hemphill was named most improved player, Rossignol was named the team’s outstanding player and Albert, Williams and Peers shared MVP honors.
Finally, the end-of-year senior awards were presented. Jessica Tucker was selected the recipient of the Roger Bernard Medallion for displaying positive leadership, school citizenship, and character traits during her career.
The Pet Thornton/Howard Lello Awards for outstanding senior male athlete was given to Ahmed Beshir. He was a member of the soccer, basketball, track and field, volleyball, cross country and baseball teams during his four years as an Eagle.
The female recipients were Kassee Albert and Jackie Peers. Both played soccer, basketball and softball during their four-year careers.
