Schoolhouses part of our local history

To the editor:

I recently visited the Caribou Historical Society in order to donate a article which had belonged to my first husband, Arnold O. Beaulieu, (1932-78) of Caribou. I was totally overwhelmed by the beautiful buildings, sparkling cleanliness, orderly and interesting displays, and the friendliness and interest of the two gentlemen “minding the store.”

We spend much more time there that we had intended and thoroughly enjoyed it. Such a wealth of history and information! And, sadly, like many other historical museums, neglected by local folks.

The schoolhouse alone should be hosting school groups — perhaps even their teacher holding a class there with students sitting in the old desks! The possibilities are endless.

    The museum is a gem!
