Doug Sharpe a Fort Fairfield native
Just in time for summer, the town of Limestone welcomes its new Recreation Director Doug Sharpe.
“We’re very happy to have him on our team,” Fred Ventresco, town manager, said. “He has good experience in recreation.”
Sharpe has coached, supervised and championed recreation since 2009. He’s from Fort Fairfield, and since he was a kid, his second home has always been the local rec center.
“My parents couldn’t keep me away,” Sharpe said.
Afternoons after school Sharpe could be found playing basketball or swimming and being active. The being active part is what he wants to instill in not just Limestone youth, but all residents.
“I want to create a solid program for all ages,” he said.
After working as the recreation supervisor in Fort Fairfield for six years, Sharpe landed a job at a YMCA in Orlando, Florida. But when an opportunity to come home came around, he couldn’t pass it up.
“This is the perfect job for me, what I’ve always wanted to do,” he said.
Sharpe replaces previous recreation director, Bill Tucker, and he hopes to continue building a strong sports program.
“Recreation gives kids an opportunity to be part of something, part of a team,” he said.
Ventresco knows Sharpe will bring innovative ideas and improve programs to serve area residents. He also thanks Limestone residents for their patience during the hiring process.
