MONTICELLO, Maine — A local woman swerved to avoid hitting an animal in the road and ended up rolling her vehicle down a small embankment Friday.
Jamie Burtt, 34, was driving eastbound on the Lake Road shortly after 10:30 a.m. in her 1996 Chevrolet Blazer when she said a small animal, possibly a beaver, came out into the roadway, Cpl. Dennis Quint of the Maine State Police said in a news release Friday.
Burtt swerved to avoid hitting the animal, lost control of her vehicle and veered off the roadway, rolling over once and coming to rest suspended on several downed trees.
Quint said several individuals who drove upon the scene assisted Burtt in getting out of the vehicle. Monticello emergency first responders assisted at the scene, as did members of the Houlton Ambulance service, but Burtt was not brought to the hospital.
The vehicle had to be towed from the scene.
