Businesses step up to support marathon

CARIBOU — The Caribou Marathon is approaching and the list of Green Sponsors has been announced.
The event is set for Sept. 18 and features a full marathon, a half marathon, a relay race and a kids’ run.

The Green level sponsorship is a significant partnership invested in the event and reflects the enthusiasm that these businesses and organizations have in developing the community and events across Aroostook County.
Green sponsors include the Caribou Inn & Convention Center, Channel X Radio, Townsquare Media, Northeast Packaging Company, Aroostook Federal Savings and Loan and Irving Woodlands LLC.
The Caribou Marathon race committee is pleased to have such community support to help get this event off the ground. This year’s Green sponsors are excited to be a part of the inaugural event that will support tourism, growth and enthusiasm for the Aroostook County area.
“We are thrilled to be sponsoring the Caribou Marathon,” said Peter Tabor, Regional Manager for Irving Woodlands LLC. “It’s exciting to welcome competitors and supporters to Aroostook County. Runners can look forward to enjoying the natural beauty of our community as they compete to qualify for the Boston Marathon.
“Irving Woodlands has been part of the Aroostook County community for over 60 years and we’re pleased to be a part of this inaugural event. It is sure to be a big success thanks to great volunteers and community spirit here in the County.”
Many individuals and businesses are coming together to not only sponsor the Caribou Races, but also volunteer at the race water stops and finish line. John Swanberg of Aroostook Federal Saving & Loan, along with co-workers, will be working at one of the marathon water stops.
“Aroostook Savings & Loan has been proudly serving our friends and neighbors for 80 years. We’re so excited to sponsor and volunteer to be part of the most Northeastern qualifier marathon in the United States,” Swanberg said. “We’d like to thank the planning committee for all their hard work and efforts in organizing a fun-filled weekend full of community events and races for all ages to enjoy. To all of you who are running, we salute your hard work and wish you a fantastic race. Watch for us at the water station near the Mile 10 marker, we’ll be there to cheer you on.”
The Caribou Inn & Convention Center is another sponsor and supporter of the inaugural event.
“As a proud sponsor of the USATF Caribou Maine Marathon, we are very excited to welcome the participants to Caribou and look forward to sharing the amazing beauty that surrounds us in Aroostook County,” said Kevin Simmons, owner of the Caribou Inn & Convention Center.
The weekend event will entertain an exposition, showcasing health and fitness products and services, host a community dinner to help prepare runners for the following day’s running races, and a street fair will follow, offering art, crafts, good food and free music.
With over 250 athletes currently signed up, registration is filling up fast. Race registration is open until Sept. 1. The marathon’s official website caribouraces.com, has detailed information on each race, hotels and restaurants in the area, how to sign up to be an exposition or street vendor and more.
