SAD 45 budget passes

Voters in Washburn, Wade and Perham passed a budget for Maine School Administrative District 45.

The 2016-17 budget for the district has overall spending of $4.37 million, down by $6,713 from last year. The district’s mill rate increased from 8.23 to 8.3 per $1,000 of assessed property value.
The budget passed in a short time, said SAD 45 board Chair Tammi Easler, and included an increase in pay and benefits for staff, a new computer system for heating, a full-time nurse and reinstatement of a full-time building and grounds director.
“Dr. Ervin worked very hard on our budget and it showed in the numbers presented to the voters,” said Easler, referring to Superintendent Elizabeth Ervin.
Ervin has since left the district as she focuses on treatment for breast cancer and spending time with her family. The Washburn Parent Teacher Organization recently donated Ervin a handmade quilt, thanking her for a year of service as she confronts a major health challenge.
