SHERMAN MILLS — Mildred Bradstreet Fitch, 103, died peacefully on May 26, 2016 at Madigan Nursing Home in Houlton. Mildred was born April 14, 1913 in Silver Ridge, the second of four children of Ellery Miles and Myrtle (Connor) Bradstreet.
She graduated Salutorian from Lee Academy in 1928, Summa Cum Laude from the University of Maine in 1933, the Eastern Maine School of Nursing in 1942 and attended Boston University in 1945, studying Masters Level Nursing.
Mildred taught English, French and Latin in Maine secondary schools from 1933-1942. After completing nursing school Mildred taught nursing at the Eastern Maine School of Nursing, worked as a school nurse in the Houston Texas Independent School District and served for over 20 years as a nurse within the Veterans Health Administration. Upon retirement Mildred enjoyed extensive travels with her husband, Cecil, throughout the United States, Canada and Mexico. Mildred was a lifetime member of the Order of Eastern Star, Queen Ester, Chapter #10 in Hallowell.
She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Treva L. and James T. Sanders; five grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her husband of 45 years, Cecil Fitch; her sister and brothers, Laura, Eugene and Charles Bradstreet.
Mildred held warm memories of her many friends and family, children, step-children, nieces, nephews, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. The family is grateful to all the angels who cared for Mildred over the years at Madigan Estates and Nursing Home.
