PRESQUE ISLE – Richard Phillip Nickerson, 81, died July 3, 2016, at his home surrounded by his loving family. He was born August 17, 1934, in Monticello, the son Arthur and Beatrice (Jewell) Nickerson.
Richard drove long haul truck for many years, most recently for Albert Farms of Madawaska. Early on in his career, he earned the handle of “MudFlap” because other drivers only saw his tail lights and mud flaps as he passed them. He was always there for his family no matter what was going on or what project they were working on.
He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Dorothy (Monahan) Nickerson; sons, Richard Jr. and his wife, Gayle, and Jeffrey, of Presque Isle; daughters, Diane Mclean and her husband, Andy, Brenda Currie of Presque Isle, and Lori Pendexter of Mapleton; a granddaughter he raised, Terri Rae and her husband, Dan White of Wash-burn; and 27 other grand- and great-grandchildren.
At his request, there will be only a graveside service for his family and close friends at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, July 9, 2016, at Jewell Cemetery, Monticello. Donations may be made in his memory to the American Cancer Society, One Bowdoin Mill Island, Suite 300, Topsham, ME 04086. Online condolences may be shared at www.duncan-graves.com.
