NEW LIMERICK — James Marston Curtis Spencer 88, passed away Tuesday, July 5, 2016 in Park Ridge, NJ. He was born October 6, 1927 in Providence, RI, the son of Ernest and Virginia (Hallock) Spencer.

James graduated from high school in Rhode Island. Upon graduating, he enlisted in the US Navy during World War II. James took advantage of his time in the Navy, visiting many ports around the world and took many tours. James graduated from the Rhode Island School of Design and worked at a steel mill for many years. He went on to work at the US Postal Service for 32 years as a letter carrier and was honored with many awards for his service. James started attending church where he met his wife Rita Reponen.

His faith was his most important thing in his life as he spent many hours reading his Bible. James not only read the Bible, he also lived by what was in it. He was a very faithful, wise and humble man. A true gentleman who loved God. James loved reading and looking at maps. He will be remembered as a loving husband, father and grandfather.

James is survived by his two children Miriam Zuraik and her husband Ralph of Park Ridge, NJ, Matthew Spencer and his wife Amy of Windsor, CT; five grandchildren Mattaoe Zuriak and Maraya Kini both of Park Ridge, NJ, Isaac, Evan and Jaxson Spencer all of Windsor, CT; two sisters Barbara Fancy of Scottsdale, AZ, Mary Amos of Boynton Beach, FL; several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents, his wife Rita, two siblings.

Friends called at noon Monday, July 11, 2016 at the Full Gospel Assembly until the time of the service at 1 p.m. with Rev. Kevin Hatch officiating. Interment will be in the New Limerick Cemetery. A time of refreshment and remembrance will take place at the church fellowship hall after the interment.
