LINNEUS — Lee E. Stewart, 94, passed away July 2, 2016 at the Veterans’ Home in Bangor, Maine. Born October 20, 1920, the son of Ervin and Georgia Stewart, he was a life-long resident of Linneus, Maine.

Lee was predeceased by his wife June, brothers Wendell, Clifton, Dale, Floyd, and Glen; also, sister Elva, leaving a sister, Joyce Tracy of Houlton. He also leaves three children: daughter Patricia and husband Jim Nason of New Durham, NH; Gary and his wife Mary Ann of Hermon, Maine; and Tim and his wife Pam of Linneus. Also, nine grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild.

Growing up on the family farm, Lee developed early a love for the outdoors and was an avid hunter and fisherman. He loved going “down to the camp” whenever he could.

Lee was called to serve his country in the U.S. Army during WWII (1942-45), with artillery training in Ft. Sill, Okla. And being sent to Europe as a member of the 1st U.S. Infantry Division. He was a participant in the invasion at Normandy on D-Day and as a member of Battery A, 370th Field Artillery Bn thru France, the Rhineland, the Ardennes to the city of Aachen, when the surrender was declared.

Returning home to Linneus, Lee was employed by the Dead River Oil Co. until his retirement. He was a member of the Linneus Free Will Baptist Church until his death. He attended faithfully until going to the VA in Bangor.

Services were held on Thursday, July 7, 2016 at the church in Linneus with visiting for family at 11:00, friends at 12:00 and memorial Service at 1:00. Interment followed at the Linneus Cemetery with a military honor guard.
