CARIBOU — While June’s weather did not stray far from averages temperatures and rainfall, drivers were faced with a couple severe thunderstorms late in the month.
Wet roads presented a possibility of hydroplaning as black clouds hung over Aroostook County on the afternoon of the 28th and 29th.
According to National Weather Service Forecaster Mark Bloomer, Caribou received a third of an inch of rain on the 28th and 1.12 inches on the 29th.
“Storms varied across the area,” said Bloomer. “Any given storm lasts 15 to 20 minutes, but the storms were lined up like a train on the 28th.”
Bloomer says that drivers should be aware of water building up across any roads.
“There is no way for drivers to tell how deep it is,” said Bloomer. “All it takes is about a foot and a half of water to wash a car off the road, and then it could sink into a nearby pond or ravine.”
On average, Caribou’s temperatures for June were 0.7 degrees above normal and rain was 0.17 inches above normal. The averages temperature for the month was 61.4 degrees and the rain total was 3.65 inches. The warmest day was on June 19, with a high temperature of 89 degrees.
