Trail festival slated at NHC

     PRESQUE ISLE, Maine — The Nordic Heritage Sport Club is hosting the annual Nordic Trail Festival, billed as a celebration of community, trails and lifestyle.

     The event is set for July 29 and 30, 2016 and includes live music, games for young and old, contests, food and racing on the Nordic Heritage Center trails.

     It is open to all ages and ability levels and spectators are welcome.

     Camping opens at 3 p.m. on July 29 with registration taking place at the Quoggy Jo Lodge until 7 p.m. The opener party runs from 6-9 p.m., with a downhill race kickoff of the competition portion of the schedule at 6 p.m., followed by the short track world championships at 7 p.m.

     On Saturday, registration is held from 8-11:30 a.m. and the biathlon range is available for practice from 8:30-9:15 a.m. Biathlon races begin at 9:30 a.m., followed by the youth mountain bike race at 10:15 a.m., the youth trail running race at 11:15 a.m. and awards for the morning events at noon.

     Festival games and activities, including large inflatables, face painting, carnival games and kids’ bike decorating, are scheduled from noon-4 p.m. Six-hour races, which tests individual’s and team’s endurance either on the eight-plus mile bike course or five-plus kilometer running course, begin at 12:30 p.m. and awards will be handed out at 7:30 p.m. The short track world championship finals take place at 8 p.m. Live music at the lodge runs from 1-7 p.m.

     A volunteer appreciation barbecue is slated for July 31 at 11 a.m.
