Fort Fairfield’s Ryan Player converted a penalty kick for the only goal of the game as the Tigers squeaked by Presque Isle I team, 1-0, to win the annual 7v7 High School Summer Soccer Tourney held Saturday, July 16, 2016 at Caribou High School.
To reach the championship game, both teams won their semifinals in penalty kick shootouts following overtime ties. Fort Fairfield nipped the Presque Isle III team, and Presque Isle I got past Caribou II.
Thirteen high school teams participated in the tourney. In addition to the victorious Tigers, three Caribou teams and three Presque Isle squads, schools taking part were Ashland, Easton, Houlton, Limestone, Madawaska and Washburn.
The format consisted of two pool play divisions to determine seeding, followed by a knockout round to crown the champion.
