LIMESTONE, Maine — Limestone Fire Department received a call at 9:38 p.m. July 27, 2016 when a resident on the Sawyer Road noticed an unoccupied farmhouse burning across the street.
“Upon arrival it was fully engulfed in flames,” Poitras said. “The fire had gone too long before anybody noticed it.”
Limestone Fire Chief Jon Poitras said the building was “a total loss.”
Assisted by a tanker and crew from Caribou Fire and Ambulance, firefighters were on the scene for about four hours before cleaning everything up and heading back to the station.
Limestone’s Fire Chief said the structure was “an old farmhouse that had been vacant for some time,” and was “not livable.”
According to Poitras, the home was dilapidated with a piece of wall pushed in on the foundation.
The cause has not yet been determined. The Maine Fire Marshal’s office is investigating.
The home was owned by local farmer Dana Morrell.
