    NIGHTINGALE, Janet A. (Carroll), 87, South Portland, at Scarborough, July 29, 2016. Per her wishes, there will be no visiting hours. Arrangements are under the guidance of Hobbs Funeral Home, South Portland.

    SOUTH PORTLAND – Janet A. (Carroll) Nightingale, 87, passed away peacefully at Gosnell Memorial Hospice House on July 29, 2016, surrounded by family. She was born Janet Almeda Fogg on February 24, 1929, in Unity, ME. She was the oldest of four children born to the late Charles and Marion Fogg.
    She lived and attended schools in Unity, Gorham, and Presque Isle. In 1947, she married Robert J. Carroll of Presque Isle and together had seven children. She was employed for many years at Zayre Department store and served as Department Manager before her retirement.
    In 1971, she married Emery W. Nightingale, originally of Hodgdon. She enjoyed spending many summers with family and friends at their camp on Drew’s Lake near Houlton. She especially enjoyed the time she shared with her family on the lakes’ beach and the lively card games. Janet was an avid reader and devoted to completing her daily crossword puzzles. She also enjoyed the time she shared with family picking blueberries, strawberries and fiddleheads.
    Janet is survived by a sister, Louise (Fogg) Burton of Elwood City, PA; and children, Lorraine Martisauskas (Stanley) of Westwood, MA, Joyce Anderson (Andrew) of Scarbo-rough, ME, Jean Roff (Dan) of Ozark, MO, Deborah Guerrette (Steve) of LaPorte, IN, Bonnie Crowder (Ron) of LaMirada, CA, Kimberly Murchison (Steve) of Scarborough, ME; and stepchildren, Brenda Friedman (Michael) of Orlando, FL, Joel Nightingale (Bonnie) of Glenwood Springs, CO, Kent Nightingale (Carol) of Minot, ME, and Joy Courtney (Scott) of El Reno, OK.
    She was predeceased by her parents; sister, Jean (Fogg) Michaud; brother, Benjamin Fogg; son, Robert; and husband, Emery.
    She is lovingly remembered by 11 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews.
    Per her wishes, there will be no visiting hours. She will be interned at Hodgdon Cemetery, Hodgdon. Friends who wish may make donations in her memory to the Gosnell Memorial Hospice House, 180 US Route One, Scarborough, ME 04074. Arrangements are under the guidance of Hobbs Funeral Home, South Portland.
