CARIBOU, Maine — The 10-12 year-old baseball tournament, sponsored by the Northern Maine Community Recreation Association, took place July 25 and 27, 2016 at the Little League fields, with seven local squads vying for the title.
In the end, Presque Isle was too much for host Caribou in last Wednesday’s championship game, winning by a score of 13-3.
Caribou was outhit, 15-3. Alex Levesque had two of Caribou’s hits, including a triple, while teammate Keegan Bell contributed a single.
Ryan Austin started and went five innings, while Levesque came on in relief to pitch the sixth. They combined for eight strikeouts in the contest.
Second baseman Gage Hale and center fielder Blake Anderson were the defensive standouts for Caribou, which had beaten Ashland and Mapleton in the early-round games played July 25.
Presque Isle’s path to the finals included a victory over Fort Fairfield in the semifinals after drawing a first-round bye.
Mars Hill and Madawaska were the other teams playing in the tourney.
