Hoop hall of fame inductees to compete in golf scramble

FORT FAIRFIELD, Maine — Many past and new inductees into the Maine Basketball Hall of Fame will be on hand for this year’s golf scramble at Aroostook Valley Country Club, set for Saturday, Aug. 6, 2016.

The sixth annual event will include past inductees Skip Chappelle, Steve Pound and Steve Condon and new inductees Matt Rossignol, Dewey Dewitt and Tony Hamlin, among others.

The four-person tourney, which follows the Oldsmobile Scramble format, will begin with a 10 a.m. shotgun start. Registration takes place from 9-9:45 a.m. and the field is limited to the first 36 paid teams. The entry fee is $65 per player.

There will be men’s, women’s and mixed divisions and the hole-in-one prize is $10,000 cash or a 2016 Honda Civic.

A steak and chicken barbecue will be served following the tourney and a live auction will include Boston Celtics and Red Sox tickets, concert tickets, hotel rooms and stay-and-play golf packages.

Cash prizes will be awarded to the top four gross teams and top four net teams. Closest to the pin and longest drive prizes will also be awarded.
