PATTEN, Maine — The Patten Pioneer Days celebration continues through Sunday to celebrate the town’s 175th birthday. The remaining events include the following:
2016
Wednesday, Aug. 10
1 p.m. — Color contest and ice cream sundaes at the Patten Town Office for ages up to 12. Rain location: Patten Rec.
1 p.m. — Outdoor concert at Mt. Heights by Dennis McGuire’s One-Man Band. Refreshments provided; blanket or lawn chairs welcome.
2-5 p.m. — Behavioral health suicide prevention seminar at Katahdin Valley Health Center building.
3 p.m. — Watermelon eating contest for ages 4-16 at the park.
6 p.m. — Patten Pioneer Days pageant at the Patten Rec, for ages 4-14.
Thursday, Aug. 11
9 a.m.-4 p.m. — Book sale at Veterans Memorial Library.
11 a.m.-2 p.m. — Diabetic seminar with vision and foot exam at the KVHC administration building.
12:15 p.m. — Teddy bear picnic at the park for ages 7 and under. Bring a picnic lunch and a teddy bear; enjoy a cupcake and photo booth.
1:30 p.m. — Field Day at the ball field. Ages 7 and under starting at 1:30; ages 8-14 starting at 3:30. Be prepared to get wet.
4:30-6:30 p.m. — Spaghetti supper at the Methodist Church.
7 p.m. — Worship concert at the Methodist Church; come out for a night of dance and praise.
5-8 p.m. — Evening at the Patten Lumberman’s Museum, Paul Marshall memoir “Maine Boy Goes to War and the Story of Mizpah.”
9 p.m. — Family kickball under the lights; golden tickets for participation.
Friday, Aug. 12
9 a.m.12 p.m. — Book sale at Veterans Memorial Library.
11 a.m.-12:30 p.m. — Progressive lunch (while 150 containers last). Start at Patten Rec for container and map.
1:30-3: p.m. — Foul shooting contest, Patten Drug Co., for grades 2-6.
2-4 p.m. — “A Look at the Early History of Patten,” part 2, by the Patten Area
Woman’s Club. Topic: How religion, education and
business shaped the community in the 1800s. Cookies and lemonade will be served.
4-7 p.m. — Pioneer
barbecue at Shin Pond Village.
5-7 p.m. — Silent auction at Shin Pond Village.
6 p.m. — VBS closing ceremony at the Patten Pentecostal Church.
9 p.m. — Fireworks at Shin Pond Village.
9 p.m.-1 a.m. — Dance at Shin Pond Pub. ID required.
Saturday, Aug. 13
8-9 a.m. — Color run. Cost: $15 per participant, $50 per family of four. Water bottles provided. Wear white T-shirt. Starts and follows ATV trail. Participants may walk in parade. Preregister by calling Cheryl Anderson, 267-5720 or 528-2975.
10 a.m. — Main Street parade. Lineup on Mill Street at 9:30. Winners will be announced at the gazebo at 4:30 p.m.
10 a.m. — Flea market/craft fair at park. Setup begins at 7:30 a.m. $15 per space; must bring your own table. Call 528-2215.
11 a.m. — Doughboys and nachos for sale at park, benefiting Project Graduation.
11 a.m.-4 p.m. — Bean-hole bean dinner at Lumbermen’s Museum. FMI: lumbermensmuseum.org.
11 a.m.-2 p.m. — Children’s carnival and G-Force laser tag. Carnival games, cotton candy and popcorn; laser tag and obstacle course. $12 unlimited bracelet or $3 for laser tag or obstacle course session.
11 a.m.-1 p.m. — Lumberjack Tina show at lumbermen’s museum.
Pie sale — United
Methodist Church. Whole pies and slices a la mode. Enjoy a slice of pie with coffee or tea and take a pie home to share.
Hot dog stand at park – Playground Committee. Hot dogs, chili dogs, sausages with peppers and onions,
coffee and cold drinks. Proceeds benefit Patten Playground.
12 p.m. — Volleyball tourney at park. Cost: $20/team; each team must include at least one female.
1-3 p.m. — Meet your KVHC pharmacist at the KVHC administration building.
2 p.m. — Foul shooting and three-on-three at
basketball court for grades 3-12.
4-6 p.m. — Masons’ steak dinner, KVHC lot.
4:30 p.m. — Winners announced at gazebo.
5 p.m. — Home run derby at ball field.
8-10 p.m. — Family dance at Patten Rec.
Sunday, Aug. 14
9 a.m. — Community church service at park, followed by community prayer chain.
10 a.m. — Co-ed softball tournament at ball field,
volleyball court. $20 per team; each team must include at least one female. Starts at Hangar Pizza. Ride to
Shin Pond. Bring a bag lunch or purchase at local businesses.
