5K race honors EMS

They risk their lives to serve and protect. It is our communities’ first responders who give their all and ask for very little in return. Without their daily walking of the line, we wouldn’t enjoy the beautiful and safe place we call home.

With the creation of a new event “Remember the Responder” on Aug. 20, 2016 runners and walkers can now honor, remember and support local first responders all while taking in the beauty that is northern Maine.

Those honored are the Maine State Police, Maine Warden Service, Aroostook County Sheriffs, US Border Patrol, Presque Isle Police Department, Presque Isle Fire and local EMS services. All proceeds will be directly donated to the Presque Isle Police and Fire Departments.

Remember the Responders will kick off at County Physical Therapy in Presque Isle. Part of the CompetitorME Community Wellness Series, Remember the Responder features a Kids 1 Mile Fun Run and 5K (3.1 mile) run or walk.

Packet pickup and registration will be on Friday, Aug. 19 from 4-6 p.m. at Bike, Board, and Ski in Presque Isle. Registration on event day is at the venue from 7-8 a.m., with the Kids Fun Run beginning at 8:15 a.m. and the 5K at 9 a.m.

Those wishing to keep up to date can find the event on Facebook at CompetitorME. Registration can also be done online, so to avoid lines pre-registration is strongly encouraged. Registration can be found by visiting www.competitorme.com. The first 100 registrants receive Atayne event shirts and everyone receives a finisher medal. The fee also covers age group and overall awards, chip timing, personalized bibs and a fully supported and staffed course.

The entry fee is $25 per person for the 5K and $5 for the Kids 1 Mile Fun Run, with increased pricing on the day of the event.

“Remember the Responder” is the third event in the newly launched Community Wellness Series. This series was created by CompetitorME to encourage youth and adults to make fitness a lifestyle.
