This will be a busy week for our local golf courses as the “County Open” returns for the 27th year. This year it will be held in memory of Donald “Donnie” Collins.
Friday night will be a fish fry and dance at the Maine Slice Restaurant at VaJoWa in Island Falls. Saturday will be a stroke play tournament at Houlton Community Golf Course. It will be followed that evening with a dinner and raffle catered by the Lakeside Restaurant. Sunday will feature a four player team scramble format held at VaJoWa Golf Course. Enter soon as tee times are sure to fill up fast. Call the courses to sign up.
Men’s Twilight League has just passed its midway point with Bob Gray and Jerry York leading the McIlroy division, followed by Bill Dwyer and Ted Pettingill and Bill Boulier and Peter Lawlor close behind. In the Speith division, Skip Cleary and Dan Williams moved in front of Porter and Marty Gervais, followed by Marty Bouchard and Brian Fitzpatrick.
In the Ladies Twilight Association, there has been spirited competition with each week being a different format. Play is followed by a fine supper in the clubhouse. Junior Golf Program wrapped up this week with participants competing in driving, chipping, and putting contests. Awards were handed out after along with a tasty pizza lunch. hope you all had fun and will continue to play this summer.
Coming events are the Club Championship – Presidents Cup, which will be August 27-28, 2016. The Babe Caron Memorial Member – Guest/Member-Member Tournament will be held over the Labor Day weekend. The Ryan Wright Memorial Scramble held by the Elks Club will be Saturday, September 17, 2016. Hope you can attend these events.
