The First Gross team was Chris Eastham, Ken Eastham, Ryan Brewer and Tamra Clark with a 31 and the First Net team was Joey Bishop, Rob Brooks, Garth Townsend Sr. and Kerry Swallow Jr. with an 11.2.
Results for the Pairs and Spares Mixed Scramble were: — 1, Greg Douglas, Pete Lawlor, Jennifer Metzger, 33; 2, April and Ricky Bates, Sara Douglas, John Porter, 34; and 3, Francis Cyr, Deb Porter, Jon Smallwood and Ellen Williams, 34. Places were determined by handicap holes.
Closest to the Pin for Men on hole No. 7 was Steven Douglas, while for the women April Bates was closest on hole No. 4 and Di Tucker on hole No. 7. Pairs and Spares golfers meet on Sundays at 3 p.m. There is a $2.50 entry fee per person. Come join us!
Don’t forget County Open weekend is this weekend! The fun begins Friday, Aug. 12 at VaJoWa/The Maine Slice Restaurant from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. with $1 from each Fish Fry menu item and half the door from the 9 p.m. to 1 a.m. DJ Dance being donated to Health Services Foundation.
Saturday is the 18 Hole Tournament at Houlton Community Golf Club followed by The County Open Dinner and Reverse Raffle. Then Sunday back at VaJoWa for The County Open 4 Person Scramble on the Sunday, Aug. 14. The entry fee for each tournament/scramble is $50 per entrant (includes greens fee and a free practice round for each event participating in). Cart rental is not included. The third annual Ladies Luau Golf Scramble is coming up on Wednesday, Aug. 31. The day starts off with breakfast from 9-10 a.m. The 18-hole scramble begins at 10 a.m. with a shotgun start. The cost is $40 per non member and $35 per member. The fee includes greens fees, carts, breakfast, dinner after golf and prizes. You can bring a bag lunch or order from the restaurant. Bring your own foursome or we can put you on a team.
The deadline is Wednesday, Aug. 24, please no late entries. Mail entry fee and handicaps to VaJoWa Golf Course, 144 Walker Settlement Rd, Island Falls, ME 04747. The course will be closed on both Sunday, Aug. 14 for the County Open Scramble and again on Wednesday, Aug. 17 for Upper St. John Senior Men’s until 3 p.m. each day.
