In 1996, an afternoon tea in Forest City on Alice Weatherby’s porch, attended by Barbara Pipines, Alice Brooks, Ruth Wheaton, Jane Cook and Pam Taylor gave birth to the idea of the East Grand Dames Book Group. Sixty books later, and now in its 20th year, the group continues to enjoy sharing ideas about loved books and the fellowship of other women from the Chiputneticook region.
For the second gathering this summer at Barbara McGillicuddy Bolton’s Orient camp, “The Boys in the Boat” was discussed, after which the women who attended posed for a photo. For information about attending, contact Barbara Bolton at mcgillbolt@yahoo.com or call her at 347-907-3615.
