PI Fire participates in Caribou event

CARIBOU, Maine While the stars of North Woods Law met with fans on one end of Sweden Street, the Presque Isle Paid Call Fire Department offered guests a chance to win a free hot air balloon ride by entering a raffle.
The department later announced Debi Weeks as winner of the raffle.

Brian Day, president of the Presque Isle Paid Call Fire Department, said that “in lieu of the raffle itself we are also having a Firemen’s Muster on Saturday, August 27, which will piggyback off the Crown of Maine Balloon Festival.”
According to Day, those interested in signing up for the Muster and Parade can visit PIFD.org to sign up and learn more.
“All surrounding fire departments are invited to attend,” Day said, “and that includes departments from New Brunswick along with northern and southern Aroostook.”
The idea to hold the muster and parade during the Balloon Festival came from Nate Weeks, who believed it would be a larger event if it was held within the same approximate time as the Northern Maine Fair and Balloon Festival.
According to Day, the PIFD has been to Thursdays on Sweden once before, and “attempted to go to Presque Isle’s ‘Mondays on Main’ event, but it was cancelled to due to weather.”
“Thursdays on Sweden brings a lot of people into the community, which is a good thing,” said Day. ”There were a lot more vendors here than I anticipated.”
