Fundraiser will benefit restoration efforts
The Little School Restoration Committee invites the public to a presentation on the history of The Little School, barbecue and music in the Little School Community Park on Saturday, Aug. 20, 2016.
The presentation on the school’s history will begin at 4 p.m in the former grade two room at the school and will include many pictures and information about the school gleaned from more than forty years of Easton town reports. Admission is free.
The barbecue and music in the park will follow the historical presentation at 5 p.m. Music will be provided by Mark Shaw, an alumnus of The Little School. Hamburgers, hot dogs, chips, soda and water will be available for purchase. All proceeds will benefit the Little School Restoration Project. Back to school basics
Students will begin school today at Easton schools. Please visit the school website (eastonschools.org) frequently to access school lunch menu, upcoming events and other reminders.
An elementary school open house will be held on Thursday, at 6:30 p.m. and Fall Fun Day will be Friday. Bus runs will remain the same as last year. Busses will begin picking up students at 7 a.m.
Happy Days Club
The Happy Days Senior Citizens’ Club met for a pizza lunch on July 28 with six members and three guests present.
Community calendar update
The Easton Kiwanis Club is unable to put together the Easton Community Birthday Calendar this year, so a group is being sought to take over the project. The calendar has been a good fundraiser, but requires a significant amount of work. If another organization would like to be responsible for the calendar, Kiwanis Club members are willing to help them get started. For more information, contact Keith or Esther at 488-6101.
Upcoming recreation department activities
Recreation department soccer will start for children in first and second grade on Tuesday, Aug. 23 after school until 3:45 p.m. on the recreation soccer field behind the school. Children must be pre-registered by emailing recreation@eastonme.com or visiting the Facebook page (Easton Recreation). The program is free for Easton residents and the program will continue each Tuesday through harvest break. Participants must have shin guards, while cleats and mouthguards are optional. A complete schedule will be distributed at the first practice.

Senior trips planned
It’s become an annual tradition to join the senior recreation groups from Washburn and Ashland for a barbecue and musical entertainment at Thomas Brewer Park. The group will travel to Washburn on Thursday, Aug. 18. The bus departs from the Manor at 10:30 a.m. and the cost is $3. Feel free to bring your own lawn chair.
On Monday, Aug. 29, the seniors will travel to Chris’s Lake House for a tour and lunch. They have been hard at work since our last visit and the senior group is excited about seeing the changes. The trip will depart from the Manor at 10:30 a.m. and the cost is $3.
