Alumni XC race slated

     The 10th annual alumni/community cross country race is set for Friday, Aug. 19, 2016 on the Caribou High School trails.

     The race begins at 7:45 p.m. and is held under the lights. Registration gets underway at 6:30 p.m. The race is run on a 2.75-mile course and is for all ages. There will be categories for 50-and-over, 40-49, 30-39, 20-29, high school, eighth-grade and younger and elite runners.

     Groups will start one minute apart to give everyone a fair chance of winning

     Those signing up can race as an individual or be part of a team, which can have up to five people and be men’s, women’s or mixed.

     There is no entry fee. Winners will receive race T-shirts. Call Roy Alden at 762-0905 for more information.

Saturday’s 5K run and walk to honor first responders

     “Remember the Responder” will be held Saturday, Aug. 20 beginning at County Physical Therapy in Presque Isle. Part of the CompetitorME Community Wellness Series, “Remember the Responder” features a Kids 1 Mile Fun Run and 5K (3.1 mile) run or walk.

     Packet pickup and registration will be on Friday, Aug. 19 from 4-6 p.m. at Bike, Board, and Ski in Presque Isle. Registration on event day is at the venue from 7-8 a.m., with the Kids Fun Run beginning at 8:15 a.m. and the 5K at 9 a.m.

     Registration can be found by visiting www.competitorme.com. The first 100 registrants receive Atayne event shirts and everyone receives a finisher medal. The fee also covers age group and overall awards, chip timing, personalized bibs and a fully supported and staffed course.

     The entry fee is $25 per person for the 5K and $5 for the Kids 1 Mile Fun Run, with increased pricing on the day of the event.

     Those honored are the Maine State Police, Maine Warden Service, Aroostook County Sheriffs, US Border Patrol, Presque Isle Police Department, Presque Isle Fire and local EMS services. All proceeds will be directly donated to the Presque Isle Police and Fire Departments.

Golf tourney to raise funds for breast cancer program

     CARIBOU, Maine — The fourth annual Pink Aroostook Scramble golf tournament will be held at the Caribou Country Club on Saturday, Aug. 27, 2016 at 9 a.m.. with a rain date of Sunday, Aug. 28.

     All proceeds from the event, presented by Cary Medical Center, will benefit Pink Aroostook, a breast health program designed for support, advocacy, education and awareness of breast health issues in Aroostook County.

     To participate, teams of four must register by Thursday, Aug. 18 by calling the Caribou Country Club at 493-3933. The team registration fee is $100 and each participant must present a GHIN Handicap card. The minimum team handicap is 40.
