CARIBOU, Maine — Heather Maynard of Caribou, National Ms. New England 2016, was recently crowned National Ms. Ambassador 2016 during the national pageant, held July 28, 2016 in Pigeon Forge, Tenn.
The event was held at The Music Road Resort Inn and Conference Center and brought together women of all ages from around the nation to compete. The show’s theme was “A Night at the Opry,” and while preparing the contestants also visited area attractions including Dollywood.
The competition featured age divisions from teen to “classic,” with women competing in five categories: private interview, fitness in aerobic wear, glamour wear, evening gown and photogenic, all of which contributed to their overall scores.
Maynard was announced the People’s Choice Award winner and the new National Ms. Ambassador 2016. This national title was awarded in addition to the five national titleholders who were crowned that evening.
The People’s Choice award provides her with 25 percent of the cash proceeds that she can donate to her charity of choice. As National Ms. Ambassador, she will reign for a year along with the other queens and spend the next year traveling and promoting the mission of this national pageant system, as well as her platform, “The Crown C.A.R.E.S.,” an anti-bullying program.
Maynard, 36, lives in Caribou with her husband of eight years, Spencer, and their two daughters, Mallory, 5, and Marigan, 2. She is the owner of the Second Glance hair salon, where she has about 17 years of hairdressing experience under her belt.
She said she loves being able to make people look and feel their very best. She has been involved with pageantry in various ways for about 20 years now, and enjoys “promoting positive pageantry and mentoring others to becoming a ‘better you’,” she said.
Maynard is highly involved within her local church in various activities, which include working with children and music, planning events, serving on committees or lending a hand where needed. When not in the salon or participating at church, she can be found singing or clogging at local functions, being with her family, or making baby hats for her local hospital nursery.
She loves four-wheeling and crafting and, she concluded, feels “being a role model helps to hold us accountable in all that we do and all that we say, making us aware at all times to make a positive impact to those around us.”
