OAKFIELD — A Ludlow man was arrested Saturday evening after he struck a utility pole with his pickup truck in Oakfield, a Maine State Police sergeant said Sunday.

William H. Harrison, 47, was charged with operating under the influence, according to Sgt. Jeffrey Clark.

The crash happened shortly before 7 p.m. Saturday at the intersection of Ridge and Oakfield-Smyrna roads, when Harrison lost control of his 2002 Ford pickup while driving too fast through a corner. Harrison lost control of the vehicle and and crashed into a telephone pole, Clark said.

Harrison was arrested on the OUI charge after he failed a field sobriety test. He was taken to the Aroostook County Jail in Houlton. He was released on $350 cash bail and is scheduled to appear in Houlton District Court on Oct. 4.

He was wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash.

The Aroostook County Sheriff’s Office and Oakfield Fire Department and first responders assisted at the scene.
