Lions Food Booth

The Mapleton Lions Club will be the host sponsor again for the 2016 Balloon Fest. The Lions will also run their food booth at the Northern Maine Fairgrounds as their only fundraiser for the club’s charities. They will serve their “world-famous” Italian sausage sandwiches, cheeseburgers, french fries and doughboys.
The food booth will be open Friday evening from 4 p.m. until the balloon glow and Saturday from 11 a.m. to the evening glow.
Stop in and enjoy a handcrafted burger or sausage sandwich topped off with a doughboy and support the club’s work in Mapleton, Chapman and Castle Hill.

School is starting

Mapleton Elementary School Principal Dan Duprey invites parents and children coming into the school’s pre-K and kindergarten this fall to a special get-acquainted Cookie and Juice Day on Thursday, Aug. 25.
Duprey explained a good introduction of these young students to their teacher is key to a good start to their education, as well as meeting the parents, whose support is critical to the education process.
The times for Cookie and Juice Day are as follows: Pre-K morning session students will gather from 9-10 a.m., pre-K afternoon session students will gather from 1-2 p.m., and all kindergarten sessions (morning and afternoon) will gather from 11 a.m.-1 p.m.
For students and their families in grades 1-5, an open house will be held on Wednesday, Aug. 31, from 6-7 p.m. Students and their families can come visit their new classroom, meet their teacher and tour the school before the first day on Sept. 6.
Duprey stated, “All our teachers and staff are eager to see the kids and get the new school year started.”
The first of classes is Tuesday, Sept. 6.

Music night a success

The Haystack Historical Museum was filled to capacity for the performance of the Wednesday Evening Fiddlers, who played many well-known fiddle tunes for two hours. The performance delighted all who attended.
The Historical Society thanks the Wednesday Evening Fiddlers for coming and they also thank everyone who came for the performance and made a donation for the support of the museum.
Future activities for the museum include the annual baked ham dinner and auction to be held at the museum on Saturday, Sept. 10. The public is invited.
