Sesquicentennial items still available

As a year of celebrating Easton’s year-long 150th birthday has concluded, there are still a few items available at half price.
There are books on the history of Easton, entitled “A Community Carved from the Wilderness 1865-2015” for only $5. Twenty-ounce glasses with Sesquicentennial logos, glass coffee mugs with bears and sesquicentennial logo,s royal blue T-shirts with sesquicentennial logos, blue sweatshirts with sesquicentennial logos and two-tone caps or standard caps with sesquicentennial logos are also available.

Harvest camps planned through rec department
Dance Camp will be offered through Moon Dance Studios on Sept. 19, 20 and 22, 2016 from 10:45 a.m.-12:15 p.m. at the Hall. The cost is $18 and the camp is open to those in grades 1 and up. Focus will be on hip hop and jazz. Campers are encouraged to dress in comfortable clothes to move easily.
Golf camp will be offered at Mars Hill Country Club on Sept. 26, 27 and 29 from 9:35 a.m.-12:15 p.m. The cost is $10 and it is open to grades 1 and up. The children will be transported by bus to the golf course for instruction by the golf pro. Clubs will be provided.
Fall cooking camp will be offered in collaboration with the University of Maine Cooperative Extension and Chris Finnemore on Oct. 3, 4 and 6 from 9:30-11:45 a.m. The cost is $10 and open to grades 1 and up. The children will be serving the seniors dinner on Thursday at 11:15 a.m. Please feel free to invite grandparents or other special folks in your child’s life.
Happy Days Club
The Happy Days Senior Citizen’ Club met for a potluck lunch on Aug. 11 with 10 members and two guests present. The group’s next meeting will be at 11:30 a.m. on Thursday, Aug. 25 in the Recreation Room at the Manor. They will be order a Chinese lunch for members and guests. Please plan to join in and bring a friend!
Community calendar update
The Easton Kiwanis Club is unable to put together the Easton Community Birthday Calendar this year, so a group is being sought to take over the project. The calendar has been a good fundraiser, but requires a significant amount of work. If another organization would like to be responsible for the calendar, Kiwanis Club members are willing to help them get started. For more information, contact Keith or Esther at 488-6101.
Upcoming recreation department activities
Recreation department soccer is underway for children in first and second grade and meets after school until 3:45 p.m. on the recreation soccer field behind the school. Children must be pre-registered by emailing recreation@eastonme.com or visiting the Facebook page (Easton Recreation). The program is free for Easton residents and the program will continue each Tuesday through harvest break. Participants must have shin guards, while cleats and mouthguards are optional.
Rec soccer for children in third and fourth grade began this week and is also held after school until 4 p.m. on the rec soccer field behind the school. Swim lessons will be held through Gentile Hall and are open to children ages four and older. Students will be split by abilities. Classes will be held Mondays and Fridays at 1 p.m. from Sept. 19 through Oct. 7 (The Oct. 3 class will be held Oct. 4). The bus departs at 12:30 p.m. and 2:30 p.m. The cost is $50 for one child in the family and $25 for an additional child from same household. Partial scholarships may be available. Senior trips planned
On Monday, Aug. 29, the seniors will travel to Chris’s Lake House for a tour and lunch. They have been hard at work since our last visit and the senior group is excited about seeing the changes. The trip will depart from the Manor at 10:30 a.m. and the cost is $3.
On Friday, Sept. 2, the bus will leave the Manor at 11 a.m. to enjoy lunch at Grama’s Restaurant in Centreville, New Brunswick and visit Covered Bridge Potato Chip Factory in Hartland, complete with hot samples right off the line! The cost is $4 tour and participants are responsible for lunch. Those taking the trip must have a passport or photo ID/birth certificate to cross the border on the bus.
The group will join TAMC for lunch and musical entertainment at the Presque Inn and Convention Center on Monday, Sept. 12, departing at 10 a.m. from the Manor. The topics will be oncology and CT scans. The cost is $5 for everything. Please sign up in the rec room at the Manor.
