HR society plans annual conference
PRESQUE ISLE — The Northeast Society for Human Resource Management (NESHRM) will host the 20th annual Human Resource Conference on Thursday, Sept. 15, at the Northeastland Hotel in Presque Isle from 8 a.m.-3 p.m.
The conference is designed for personnel from small businesses and large corporations, including small business owners, managers, supervisors, executives and human resource professionals.
Conference topics will include safety plan creation, Department of Labor law update, transgender issues in the workplace and violence prevention.
Scheduled presenters include Miles Williams, safety administrator with Smith Farms, who will guide attendees through the process of creating a safety plan; Pamela Megathlin from the Maine Department of Labor, who will will provide an update on overtime law changes and other legislative issues relating to Maine labor laws; Kai McGintee, shareholder from Bernstein Shur, who will discuss transgender issues in the workplace; and Nancy Nichols, founder and owner of Transformations, LLC, on prevention of violence in the workplace. Detective David Pelletier from the Maine State Police will wrap up the day with active shooter preparedness training.
Lunch will be provided for seminar attendees and various vendors will have displays and information available. The registration deadline is Tuesday, Sept. 6. This conference has been approved for 4.75 credit hours, meeting the HRCI criteria for recertification credit pre-approval.
NESHRM is an affiliate of the national Society of Human Resource Management (SHRM). Local chapter meetings are generally held bi-monthly at 7:30 a.m. at the Northern Maine Community College Edmunds Conference Center in Presque Isle. Visit neshrm.shrm.org for updates.
