PT Cecile WilliamsWILLIAMS, Cecil, 87, Houlton, Sept. 5, 2016. Services will be held at the Bowers Funeral Home Fri., Sept. 9 at 1 p.m. Arrangements by Bowers Funeral Home, Houlton. 

 

HOULTON  — Cecil Williams, 87, went to be with his Heavenly Father and Loved ones that have gone on before on Sept. 5, 2016.

Cecil was born May 19, 1929, in Amity, the son of the late Melvin and Mamie (Seamans) Williams.

Cecile is survived by his wife, Ruth (Alward) Williams of 63 years; son, Larry of Houlton; Jan of Gretna, VA; three loving grandchildren; Nick Ivey of Houlton, Kerri (Ivey) Kowalski and husband (Keith) of Lees Summit, MO., Wendy (Ivey) Rose and husband Brandon of Middltown, OH; many loving great-grandchildren, Aaron and Delannie Ivey; Jack, Maris and Camdyn Kowalski; Zelva, Madison and Dakota Rose. He is also survived by three sisters, Floris of Hodgdon; Joyce White and husband Raymond of Herman, ME; Elzina Forbes and husband (Don) of Malvern, PA. Cecil was predeceased by three brothers he loved dearly, Mervin, Leonard and Basil; two sisters he thought the world of, Madeline Edward and Leita Jordan.

Cecil has done a wide variety of jobs after graduating in 1947. He attended and graduated also from the University of Maine and Ricker College. Cecil taught school in Amity for 4 years.  After the school closed, relocated to Linneus and taught for 7 years. In 1962, he was offered a principal job at Littleton.  He was accepted and was there for 17 years, along with coaching baseball and basketball. In 1978, Cecil decided it was time for a vocational change. He and his wife purchased Maple Grove Nursing Home, renamed it Crestview Manor, ran the business for 7 years, then sold it. He then was offered a position as activity and social director at Rest Haven Nursing Home in Patten.  When Danforth Nursing Home opened, he accepted a job there as Administrator. He retired after 10 years.

He enjoyed retirement by fishing, hunting, snowsledding and going to the nursing homes and hospital along with 5 others to sing the “Wonderful Hymns” he enjoyed.

Cecil thanked God for all his accomplishments and experiences of life.

Friends and relatives may call at Bowers Funeral Home, 10 Water St. in Houlton on Friday, Sept.9 at 1-2 p.m. Funeral services immediately following with Sterling Lawrence, pastor of the Bethel Pentecostal Church, Oakfield, ME, officiating.

In lieu of flowers, donations may made to the American Cancer Society or one of your choice. Burial will be in the Hodgdon Cemetery.

Also, the family would like to thank the staff at Madigan Estates for all the care given. Cecil enjoyed his stay there, going to activities and especially singing.
