Paul David Bondeson

    American Flag Color NEW SWEDEN – Paul David Bondeson, Sr., 71, passed September 3, 2016. He was born September 11, 1944, in Caribou, to Harold and Thorborg Bondeson of Woodland. He married Barbara Shepard of Fort Fairfield on September 7, 1965.

     Paul was educated in Woodland and Caribou school systems, and also Las Vegas Technical Institute. He was well known to many, working for several years as “The Old Chimney Sweep” and mason. More recently Paul was also the Sexton of the New Sweden Cemetery for 10 years. 

     He was very proud of his service to his country after being drafted into the U.S. Army in June of 1965 until June of 1967, where upon his discharge he had attained rank of Sargent E5. He was a member of the American Legion for over 50 years, holding many offices in the local post, county and District of Maine. Most recently, he had been playing cribbage with his friends on a daily basis at the American Legion in Caribou. 

     Paul was predeceased by his parents; brothers, Peter and Danny; and also his son, Paul David Bondeson II in 1997. He is survived by his wife, Barbara Bondeson of New Sweden; daughter, Wanda Bondeson; and grandchildren, Ashley and Brandon of New Sweden; also a very special nephew, Sven Bondeson. He is also survived by siblings, Norma, Rebecca and Carl. 

      He won his last cribbage game! (Sorry, Dave Sterris.)

      Graveside services will be held on Friday, September 9, 2016, at 2 p.m., at the New Sweden Cemetery. Those wishing to visit with the family may do so after the ceremony at a luncheon being held at the Gustaf Adolph Lutheran Church, where Paul was a lifelong member.
