Richard W. Thibodeau

      CARIBOU and PORTLAND — Richard W. Thibodeau, 71, affectionately called Pit by his friends and family, passed away unexpectedly on August 31, 2016, at his Park Danforth Residence in Portland.  Pit had recently relocated to Portland to live closer to his family.

     He was born in Caribou, the son of the late Patrick and Laura (Plourde) Thibodeau.  Pit attended Caribou High School and graduated with the Class of 1963.  He went on to earn a degree from the Hartford Institute of Accounting.  He was married to Carol Hutchinson in 1964 and was blessed with three daughters.  In addition to his jobs as Manager of Hutchinson Florist and Branch Manager of TD Bank, Pit was also actively involved in the Caribou & Rockland Rotary Clubs, the Rockland Fire Department as a volunteer Fire Fighter, a Boy Scout Advisor, a Woman’s Softball Coach, part of the State Champion Caribou Senior League Boys Baseball team and played with his brothers for years in the Men’s Softball League.

     Pit also enjoyed taking trips with his family and going on picnics at Thomas Park.  He loved to garden, listen to music, and spend time with family and friends.  He will be missed by all whose lives he touched. 

     Pit is survived by his daughters, Cara Michaud of Portland, Maine; Renee Kurtz and husband Guy of CO; and Robyn Thibodeau of Mashpee, MA.  He is also survived by his grandchildren that he loved very much.  Poppy, as he was affectionately referred, will be missed dearly by Alexa Michaud, Zoe Kurtz and Andre Kurtz. Also he will be missed by his arch enemy Snowflake.  In addition to his role as loving father and husband, Pit is also survived by his brothers – Ronne Thibodeau, John & Dawn Thibodeau, Terry & Barb Thibodeau, Gerald & Lorraine Thibodeau, Danny & Theresa Thibodeau, Reggie & Sharon Thibodeau, Jimmy & Lorie Thibodeau, and sister Linda Doody & Gary Hussey.  He is also survived by many nieces and nephews – Beth, Robbie, Jana, Ryan, Andy, Ashley, Alicia, Danis, Samantha, Laura, Kylie, Cody, Patrick, Katie, Dana Jo, Billy Jo and Jessie.  He was predeceased by his wife, Carol, in 2012, and a sister-in-law, Sally Thibodeau.

     Friends may visit with the family at the Mockler Funeral Home, 24 Reservoir Street, Caribou on Saturday, September 10 from 10 a.m.until time of services. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 12 p.m. from the Parish of the Precious Blood Holy Rosary Catholic Church in Caribou.  A Celebration of Life will follow downstairs in the Parish Hall.
