Cross country runners shine in first meet

HOULTON, Maine — The cross country season began with a bang Aug. 31, 2016 as squads from Washburn, Limestone/MSSM, Greater Houlton Christian Academy and Fort Kent joined Houlton runners for the first meet of the year.

The event featured a new, relay format, with runners paired up as a tandem racing in heats.

“This was the first time we have done this style of meet and I believe the first time something like this has been done in the Aroostook League schedule,” said Houlton coach Chris Rines. “All went well and the runners really enjoyed the change of format.”

The combined team scores were: 1, Limestone/MSSM, 34; 2, Greater Houlton Christian Academy, 23; 3, Fort Kent, 14; 4, Washburn, 12; 5, Houlton, 10.
