Triathlon for kids offered Sunday

The REDY Youth Triathlon returns after a year off and is scheduled for this Sunday.

The youth triathlon will consist of swimming, biking and running. Triathletes between the ages of 7 and 9 will swim 50 yards, bike two miles, and run one-half mile. Participants between the ages of 10 and 12 will swim 50 yards, bike 2.5 miles, and run one mile. And those participants who are 13 or 14 will swim 100 yards, bike 2.5 miles and run one mile.
The University of Maine at Presque Isle will host the event. Participants will have an opportunity to swim in the Gentile Hall pool and run and bike through much of the scenic campus. Check-in for parents and athletes will be at 9 a.m. and the race begins at 10 a.m. at UMPI’s Gentile Hall. The fee is $10 per child. Sock It To Cancer

The final event in the newly-launched Community Wellness Series is dedicated to fighting cancer.
The Sock It To Cancer will be held Saturday, Sept. 10 at Mantle Lake Park in Presque Isle. It includes a one-mile fun run and a 5K (3.1 miles) run or walk.
Packet pickup and registration takes place Friday, Sept. 9 at Bike, Board and Ski in Presque Isle. Registration on the day of the event is from 7-8 a.m. To sign up online, visit competitorme.com.
The first 100 registrants receive a shirt, a finisher medal, personalized bibs and are eligible for age group and overall awards.
The fun run for youth begins at 8:15 a.m. and the 5K starts at 9 a.m.
All proceeds go to Caring Area Neighbors for Cancer Education and Recovery, a group which brings awareness and respect for those living with cancer in Aroostook County. For more information on the event, visit competitorme.com.

Bowling meetings

Northern Lanes will hold organizational meetings for its bowling leagues on the following dates.
Women’s Atlantic League; tonight (Sept. 7), 6:30 p.m., Men’s National and American leagues; Thursday, Sept. 8, 6:30 p.m., Men’s Independent League; and Sunday, Sept. 11, 5 p.m., Mixed Doubles League. For more information, call 764-1532.

Fall foliage luncheon

There will be a fall foliage luncheon excursion to the Lakeview Restaurant in St. Agatha on Thursday, Oct. 6 for all senior citizens and their guests, offered through the Fort Fairfield Parks and Recreation Department.
The tour bus will depart from the Knights of Columbus Hall in Fort Fairfield at 10 a.m. and will return at approximately 2:30 p.m. There is no charge for the bus transportation but all participants are responsible for the cost of their own lunch. Goughan Farm Adventure

On Tuesday, Oct. 4, the Fort Fairfield Parks and Recreation Department is conducting a youth field trip to the Goughan Farm for a fun day of activity and adventure. The trip includes transportation to and from the farm, a group hay ride, exploration of the corn maze, homemade ice cream and a take-home pumpkin, all for just $6 per person. For an additional $2.50, participants can play nine holes of mini golf, or for an extra $5 participants can play the entire 18-hole course before leaving the farm, or play nine holes for $2.50.
The bus will depart from the community center at noon and return at approximately 3:30 p.m. Participants must be at least 10 years of age or be accompanied by a responsible chaperone.

Officiating class

Basketball officiating school, hosted by the International Association of Approved Basketball Officials Board #150, will begin Sept. 27 at Presque Isle High School.
