“The general medical care of patients with increasingly complex conditions is challenging, especially for those patients who require hospitalization,” said Jim Davis, Pines CEO. “In addition to his training in Internal Medicine, Dr. Hoeksma has provided teaching, research, and leadership related to hospital care.

“Dr. Hoeksma joins our professional team of providers often known as the Cary/Pines Hospitalist team which includes Dr. Claude Boma, Dr. Irene Djuanda, Dr. John Bouchard, Dr. Phillip Din and family nurse practitioner Josee Romann.”

Most recently, the Canadian physician from Halifax completed his residency in internal medicine at Rochester Regional Health System, Rochester, N.Y. Earlier this year and last, he conducted a research project examining socioeconomic factors affecting rates of 30-day readmission, and a study which examined how ‘prone positioning’ techniques can be used to assist patients in acute respiratory distress. The results helped promote the use of prone positioning in the Rochester Regional Hospital ICU.

Hoeksma will work closely with referring Pines physicians and the Cary Medical Center staff.

In addition to hiking in Japan – where he lived for a time — he has hiked extensively throughout the Eastern seaboard. His wife and two young children will relocate with him to Caribou. In his leisure time, Hoeksma enjoys cross-country skiing and camping.
