MADAWASKA — NorState Federal Credit Union recently donated $1,000 in support of the Aroostook Aspirations Initiative program.
Funded initially by the Gauvin Fund, Aroostook Aspirations Initiative and its allies are dedicated to helping the young students of Aroostook County realize their dreams of attending college through scholarship and maintaining a successful local career, stemming the out migration of youth from The County and giving a boost to the Northern Maine economy.
The organization strives to educate students about the educational opportunities available to them right here in Aroostook County. AAI has worked extensively with businesses, superintendents, principals, guidance directors and teachers to ensure that all students are aware of these opportunities.
Each year, the initiative awards college scholarships and grants to students across The County to help them pay for college expenses. In addition, AAI has created several support programs to ensure successful college completion for the scholars.
“Financially assisting an initiative to keep youth educated and working in The County is essential to the growth of our communities,” stated Denise Duperre, executive marketing director at NorState FCU and a member of AAI’s board of directors.
“Our commitment of stemming the outmigration of youth is essential to the quality of our workforce,” she continued. “They are the future of our communities, our future leaders and we want them to succeed, grow and profit locally.”
