The Houlton Council of Catholic Women met Sept. 6 for their first meeting of the year.
Father Dave celebrated Mass at 5:30 for present and deceased members of the council, followed by a potluck supper in the Parish Center.
President Sue Hardy conducted the business meeting. There were 12 members present and our moderators, Fr. Dave and Deacon Al Burleigh. We also had three guests, Bethany Tabb, Catherine Wendes and Angela Robinson.
We began with our traditional prayers. Tammy Blanchette read the minutes from the June meeting. Treasurer Mary Grant gave the treasurer’s report. There was no correspondence. Dues are being collected and the Seminarian basket was available for those who wished to contribute.
Due to the resignation of our present secretary, Charlene Tabb will be our secretary for the upcoming year.
Our annual rummage sale will be Oct. 6, 7 and 8. We will begin accepting donations Sept. 18. We are in need of help to set up, fold and sort clothes and work on the sale days. Some of our members are unable to help this year, so we are seeking help from other sources.
We voted to make a donation for flowers for Confirmation and also a donation to the Backpacks for Kids Project.
HCCW received certificates for the Patron’s Fund and the Seminarian’s Fund from MCCW.
Birthdays and anniversaries were recognized for September. Mary Grant won the door prize.
Prayer intentions were gathered and members recited two Hail Marys.
The meeting adjourned. The next meeting will be Oct. 3 at 6 p.m. All Catholic ladies are invited.
