Are you a Q-Person? Might you be an Unbleached Muslin? A Calico? A polished Cotton? Perhaps a Double Knit?

Helen Kelley has a system to help you decide. If you are interested in quilts, you may have the Q-chromosome. Bravo!

A frequently published author for over 30 years, Kelley writes in “Every Quilt Has a Story” about  her triumphs and catastrophes in short, humorous chapters. The black-and-white illustrations have a definite old-fashioned theme, which is delightful. (746.46 Kel)

Maine and Aroostook County have many accomplished quilters, tailors and seamstresses. Men and women are known for their piecing, stitching and awesome projects. Quilt making is popular now and there are always stories to tell, and this book is a fun read, just for the pleasure of it. Your experience may be included  and will bring back memories of your work.

Kelley describes her affection for fabric, her storage capacity, the investments in fabric and sewing machines, countless hours at her craft, and burning the midnight oil just to finish a work in progress.

One funny section discusses “The IQ Test,” or Impatience Quotient test, which could be a blessing or a curse. And in the “Drawn and Quartered” pages, you will find the quiz we love the most.

This little book was donated to Cary in memory of a lady; I don’t know if she was a quilter herself or just loved homemade covers. It is a tribute to all quilters who for generations have practiced this art form to produce blankets of beauty and practicality.
