That’s right: We need your shoes!
From now until Nov. 11, we will be participating in the Shoes for Shelter Fundraiser. This is a totally new and exciting adventure for us. This fundraiser encourages people to donate their “gently used” shoes that will then be redistributed throughout the Funds2Orgs network of microenterprise partners in developing nations.

Funds2Orgs helps impoverished people start, maintain and grow businesses in countries such as Haiti, Honduras and other nations in Central America and Africa. Proceeds from the shoe sales are used to feed, clothe and house their families. SH PETBULLETIN 37 16 18668623
We all have spare shoes “kicking” around our house, so go through your closets and weed out the gently used ones that you would be willing to donate to the Central Aroostook Humane Society. This is a fun and easy way to help, so spread the word and remember, more shoes equals more money for the shelter animals. We will accept shoes at the shelter, and you can also drop them off at our two upcoming events listed below. We will have more information soon on this fundraiser.
We are excited to be participating in several events coming up this weekend of Sept. 17 and 18.
On Saturday the 17th, the shelter will be set up at Tractor Supply in Presque Isle for Pet Appreciation Day. We will be showcasing for the day some senior cats available for adoption with a “name your price” deal. This will include all cats from age 7 and up. There will also be a poster of all the senior cats that will be available at the shelter as well. Stop by Presque Isle Tractor Supply from 10:00 to 2:00 and say hello, and don’t forget to drop off your gently used shoes.
On Sunday, Sept. 18, we will have a booth at the Caribou Marathon Street Festival from 8 a.m.-3 p.m. We will be selling our newest T-shirt design along with other merchandise (and don’t forget to check out our new logo). The city of Caribou is expecting hundreds of visitors and is proud to present the first ever USATF certified marathon in Aroostook County. It is also the most northeastern qualifier in the United States.
This free street festival in the community will hopefully bring everyone to Caribou to check out the many booths that will be set up. We will collect shoe donations at this event as well.
We have many sweet kittens that are up for adoption, along with some older felines. If you are looking for a new addition to your family, stop by the Central Aroostook Humane Society. Our hours are Tuesday through Saturday, 10 a.m.-4 p.m., closing for lunch 12-12:30.
Remember to be responsible pet owners: spay and neuter your pets.
