Easton man dead after PI crash
PRESQUE ISLE, Maine — An 80-year-old Easton man has died after a crash in Presque Isle over the Labor Day weekend, according to an officer with the Presque Isle Police Department.
Officer Kyle White said Tuesday that Oran Holmes Jr., who was commonly called “Junior,” died Monday, Sept. 5, 2016 after the crash at the intersection of Cedar and Dudley streets at about 10 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 3.
White said Holmes was northbound in his 1995 Chevy Lumina, headed toward Caribou, when he failed to stop for a stop sign at Dudley Street. He was struck by a 2014 Honda Accord driven by Tina Cowett, 35, of Mapleton, who was headed east on Cedar Street toward The Aroostook Medical Center.
White said that Cowett, who was wearing her seat belt, was taken to The Aroostook Medical Center, treated for minor injuries and then released. Holmes, who was not wearing a seat belt, was flown to Eastern Maine Medical Center in Bangor, where he died on Monday.
The officer said this was the second fatal crash at the intersection in recent years, and the fourth that led to injuries.
The accident remains under investigation by White and Maine State Police Trooper Rob Flynn.
