MSP charge driver of PI tractor trailer
PRESQUE ISLE, Maine — Maine State Police say they have charged a Virginia tractor trailer driver after he drove several miles along the Maine Turnpike Monday, Sept. 12, 2016 in the wrong lane.
The trailer portion of the truck, which was empty, is registered to Blue Diamond Transportation of Presque Isle.
According to Maine public safety spokesman Stephen McCausland, after receiving a number of calls from motorists about 9:30 p.m. Monday of a wrong-way driver with the vehicle’s lights off driving in the wrong lane, Troopers were able to stop the truck in Saco after it collided with the rear of a cruiser.
The big rig was stopped after troopers had to take evasive action to avoid a head-on collision with the truck.
Charged with driving to endanger is Michael Crews, 49, from Hurt, Va. He was taken to Southern Maine Medical Center for evaluation.
Troopers think crews got on the wrong lane from the Kennebunk service plaza, driving north in the southbound lane, McCausland said. There was minor damage to the cruiser and no injuries to the responding troopers.
