HOULTON, Maine — A community cross-country race will be held Saturday, Sept. 17, 2016 at Houlton High School for walkers and runners.

Registration begins at 9 a.m. and costs $12 for walkers and runners. Children may participate for free. The children’s event begins at 9:45 a.m., followed by a two-kilometer walking event at 10 a.m. Runners will hit the trails five minutes later for a five-kilometer race.

“Grab your shoes, spikes, water, and a friend to come out and kick the harvest season off with a blast,” said Chris Rines, event organizer.

Harvest theme awards await the winners of each age division and the first 30 individuals to sign up will receive a t-shirt.

Participants will make their way through the RSU 29 Bird Farm running trails located behind Houlton High School. The course will be marked and volunteers will be out on the path to make sure people are heading in the proper direction. The start and finish are both located behind Houlton High.

Proceeds from the event benefit the Houlton High School cross country team.
