Wildcat golfers cap off busy week with victory

The Presque Isle Wildcats’ golf team came up with a big win on Monday, defeating Houlton at home by 10 strokes.

PI scored 185 points and was led by seniors Hunter Flynn and John Saucier, who carded a 42 and 43, respectively. Libby Boone was solid with a 48 and Seth Roy came in with a 52.
At Saturday’s 18-hole Caribou Invitational, the Wildcats placed second — ahead of Caribou and behind the Shires. PI compiled a score of 381. Flynn’s score of 81 led the way, followed by Saucier (94), Roy (101) and Boone (105).
On Thursday, the Wildcats made the trip to Hidden Meadows in Old Town for a three-team match which also included the host Coyotes and Ellsworth. PI had an 189, losing to Old Town and beating Ellsworth. Madore and Flynn had matching 46s, while Saucier had a 48 and Boone a 49.
Last Tuesday, Presque Isle began its busy stretch by topping the VIkes in a home dual match. PI compiled a score of 194, 22 better than Caribou. Flynn was the medalist with a 40. Saucier had a 49, Roy a 51, Isaac Madore a 54 and Boone a 56.
The Fort Fairfield Tigers and Central Aroostook Panthers are preparing for Friday’s Aroostook County Championship/Regional Qualifier, set for Houlton Community Golf Course. Hodgdon and Southern Aroostook are the other teams competing.
Fort Fairfield hosted Central Aroostook and Southern Aroostook Monday afternoon. The Tigers won both matches as Jon Bernard was the medalist with a 48. Sara Edgecomb shot a 49 and Sadie Edgecomb a 54.
For the Panthers, who recorded a win over SA, Shane Stackpole’s 50 led the way. Tyson Cyr carded a 55, Ted Wheeler a 59 and Isabelle Wright at 62.
Bernard’s 47 was the Tigers’ low score in Thursday’s home loss to Hodgdon.
The Panthers downed the Tigers Friday at Mars Hill Country Club as Stackpole had a 46, Wheeler a 56 and Cyr a 59. Bernard had a 49 for FF, with Sara Edgecomb and Sadie Edgecomb next with 50 and 51, respectively.
