ENFIELD, Conn. — Farm Credit East this summer hosted 16 college students with career aspirations in agribusiness, accounting, finance or similar fields as part of its annual summer internship program.
Ben Corey of Monticello was among them. Corey, a student at the University of Maine in Orono, spent his summer at Farm Credit’s Enfield, Conn. office.
“Our internship program exemplifies our commitment to the future of Northeast agriculture, commercial fishing and forest products,” said Bill Lipinski, Farm Credit East CEO. “The program challenges the students and provides them with first-hand, real world experience in their anticipated fields.”
The 12-week internship program, offered to college juniors each summer, gives participants an inside look into Farm Credit East and lets them shadow employees in various roles. Each intern also completes a major project, many of which fulfill business plan initiatives. These projects contribute valuable information to be used in reports and future planning.
Briana Beebe, Farm Credit East director of human resources, said, “Our internship advisors put together a well-rounded experience so that each intern is exposed to agriculture native to that area.”
Interns are recruited from college campuses across the Northeast.
