HOULTON, Maine — The town is continuing to search for the person who will become the next chief of police following the abrupt resignation of Joe McKenna earlier this summer.
According to Houlton Town Manager Butch Asselin, the town has received 13 applications for the vacant police chief position and four individuals from that group have been selected for interviews.
Interviews will be conducted at the town office on Tuesday, Oct. 18, 2016 with an interview panel consisting of acting chief Dan Pelletier, council chairman Matt Carr, Lt. Brian Harris of the Maine State Police, WHOU owner Fred Grant and Asselin.
Pelletier has been acting as the town’s police chief since McKenna resigned on Aug. 5. McKenna, who came to Houlton from Florida on Jan. 3, 2014, cited an inability to work with Asselin as his reason for stepping down.
Capt. Pelletier, who has been with the force for 41 years, has served as the interim police chief while a replacement is sought. The Houlton Police Department currently has a staff of 12 officers, including the chief. There also are two vacancies within the department.
