Pair allegedly tied to state’s largest seizure

PRESQUE ISLE, Maine — Two Presque Isle residents indicted on drug charges in Aroostook last month are allegedly connected to one of the state’s largest heroin seizures.

In August, Annunziata Gambardella, 53, of Presque Isle, was indicted on a charge of aggravated trafficking in scheduled drugs by the Aroostook County grand jury. Also indicted was Robert W. Carney, 53, on three counts of aggravated trafficking of scheduled drugs and aggravated furnishing of scheduled drugs.
Aroostook County District Attorney Todd Collins confirmed on Thursday that the two Aroostook County residents are connected with the July seizure of two pounds of heroin in Cumberland County.
He said he could not provide additional details, and referred all other calls to officials with the Maine Drug Enforcement Agency in Houlton, who did not respond to a request for comment.
The heroin was destined for Aroostook County, Maine Drug Enforcement Agency Cmdr. Peter Arno said previously.
James Jamison, 33, of Waterbury, Connecticut, was arrested in Cumberland County after a two-hour search in July. Jamison’s heroin dealing in Aroostook County had been under investigation for several months, and the investigation included undercover drug purchases, according to Arno.
He also was indicted by the Aroostook County grand jury last month on charges of conspiracy to commit a crime, two counts of aggravated trafficking in scheduled drugs, two counts of illegal importation, reckless conduct with a dangerous weapon, aggravated assault, driving to endanger, leaving the scene of an accident, and aggravated criminal mischief.
