Jon Bernard, Sara Edgecomb and Sadie Edgecomb have qualified for the state individual golf tournament, to be held at Natanis Golf Club in Vassalboro Oct. 15.
The three Fort Fairfield High School golfers made the cut thanks to their scores at the Aroostook County Championships/Regional Qualifier, held Friday at Houlton Community Golf Course.
Bernard shot an 89, one stroke clear of the minimum qualifying score. He joined Hodgdon’s Ben Tuttle, who shot an 82, as the only boys to qualify.
Sara Edgecomb shot a 100 and Sadie Edgecomb a 101 as the twin sisters will both return to the state event. The cut line for girls is 110.
The Tigers did have their seven-year streak of winning the County title snapped as Hodgdon dethroned them. The Hawks had a score of 413, which was seven better than runner-up Central Aroostook and 26 better than Fort Fairfield.
Only Hodgdon and CA will move on to the state team championships on Oct. 8, also at Natanis.
The Caribou golf team continued regular season play with several matches. The latest was played at home against Houlton but was shortened due to lightning. The match was called after just six holes and the Shiretowners defeated the Vikings, 120-123.
Connor Plourde and Bailey Griffeth recorded the low scores for Caribou, which fell to 3-8 on the season.
