PRESQUE ISLE, Maine — Members of the Presque Isle Rotary Club are taking pies to the face to help raise awareness and funds for polio eradication.
The club has issued the #PiesForPolio challenge to Rotarians in the region and to the community at large. Each participant is asked to raise at least $50 for Rotary International’s End Polio Now campaign; checks can be made out to the Presque Isle Rotary Club.
The challenge has two options, as follows.
In option one, participants are to get five friends to donate $10 or more apiece to have them take a pie in the face for polio, and then record themselves getting pied in the face and challenging five more people to take the challenge.
In option 2, people may opt out of being “pied” by donating $50 to the effort.
Local Rotarians kicked things off during the Sept. 26 meeting by having Past President Frank Bemis and World Polio Day/Purple Pinkie Project co-chairs Joy Barresi Saucier and Rachel Rice take pies to the face for the cause. They challenged 10 more Rotarians and community members to take the challenge.
The community is invited to join the effort and follow along. The club will share photos and videos to the Presque Isle Rotary Facebook page, www.facebook.com/presqueislerotary, as individuals take up the challenge.
For more information about how to participate, contact Rice at rachel.rice@maine.edu or Barresi Saucier at jsaucier@tamc.org. To send a donation, mail to: Presque Isle Rotary Club, P.O. Box 641, Presque Isle, ME 04769.
