WOODLAND, Maine — The Woodland Board of Selectpeople met on September 20 to discuss a few town updates.
According to Treasurer Amber Mouthino, the town paid $260.40 for advertising for the purpose of finding an operator CDL Driver for the Highway Department. Mouthino says that one position has been filled while the other is still vacant.
The town also transferred $75,000 out of Aroostook Savings and Loan into their operating account to handle some upcoming bills.
As far as Tri-Community landfill and motor vehicle excise taxes are concerned, the town is approximately where they need to be, with the solid waste disposal numbers for August being 47.8 tons and the excise taxes collected in August being roughly $21,000, which the treasurer says is almost exactly where they were during August of 2015.
During Road Commissioner Steve Dumais’ report, he mentioned an issue with a local resident who set up their mailbox on a structure that could be part of a telephone pole. Since it is not sitting on a destructible material, the mailbox could permanently damage town property while the roads are being plowed. Dumais added that if the plow’s wing was torn off, the property owner would be responsible for the damages.
“I don’t have a problem with the distance it is from the road,” said Dumais. “It’s just that it’s too big. It’s a hazard, and it needs to be removed because it is not within code.”
The road commissioner will outline a date for the individual to remove the pole, and will resort to removing it himself if no action is taken.
